About Mossline

Mossline is an independent editorial project about moss micro-landscapes and indoor ecological gardening. We publish long, specific, unhurried guides for people who want a planted vessel to still be alive and interesting in five years.

What we cover

The site is organised into 7 sections and currently holds 40 full-length guides, from layout composition and species identification through to closed-system ecology and multi-year build teardowns.

How we work

Every article is written in-house. We prefer describing what actually happens in a vessel over repeating catalogue copy: which species tolerate which conditions, what a failure looks like three months in, and what a maker would do differently. Where a claim depends on conditions, we say so rather than flattening it into a rule.

Photography is used under Creative Commons licences from the photographers credited on each article. Nothing on this site is sponsored, and we do not accept payment for coverage or placement.

Editorial standards

We update guides when practice changes, correct errors openly, and avoid recommending wild collection of moss. Living material takes decades to form in the field; propagation and cultivated sources are always the better route.
